INSPIRED COACHING FOR EQUESTRIAN WOMEN WHO WANT MORE
Are We Having Fun Yet??
January 29, 2014
Here we are!!! The end of January and 2014 rolling out fast...ever notice that when you set a goal, declare it and (gulp...) put a DEADLINE on it...that it whips up to that date with warp speed?? Holy Moses...was that really me who wrote down that I would move my body 40 minutes EVERY day, write for an hour a day, practice Yoga 4 days a week and meditate daily? Yep, that would be me....December 31st...writing it down. Posting it on my vision board. Telling my kids. Now, one month into the year I can tell you that I kept my word. Almost. Sort of. Well, that first week of January I was spot on!!!!
Sooooooooo... how is everyone out there doing with their January 1, 2014 resolutions? How's it working out? Having fun with it? Sticking to it 100%? Wishing you wrote "#4 Drink more Prosecco" as one of your goals?
Here's my take on this and I've run it by dozens of girlfriends and we've all started to see the light...The New Year's resolution making ritual...not always our smartest move. So much hype. So much pressure. So much of so much. It's a great concept and if it's working for you...more power to you...you can skip reading this and go directly to YOU TUBE and type in 'Bill Burr"- I am a huge fan of comedy and this guy makes me laugh until I cry. Just passing on the laughter...
As for the rest of us determined "goal setters" and "life changers"...well, let's take a look at our patterns. Short term goals have energy on their side. That original burst of "I got this!" optimism that has us feeling smug and feeling like we've already lost that 10lbs, written the final chapter, got the new job or booked the flight for our dream trip...it's in the 2014 goal bag! If the goal is short term enough, many of us get there without much of glitch.
For most of us, we're looking for long lasting change. A new path that leads us somewhere we weren't before, but we'd like to be there now. (Like RIGHT now. Like click our ruby red's three times kinda NOW.) Are you with me on this? The juiciest goals in my opinion are the ones that kick our lives up a notch. Make us a wee bit nervous. Sit up a little straighter. Who me? Do that??? Wow! You think it's possible?? Yep, I know it's possible.
I love meditating because it allows me to get quiet. In that quiet there's room for inspiration. From that new inspiration dawns new ideas, new goals and new desires that I want to journey towards. This is where a goal starts for me. A goal I own.
Where do you find your inspiration? Do you allow yourself quiet moments to sit and think, "What do I want my life to look like?" What a perfect time to get cozy, make a cup of tea of pour a glass of wine (#4 on your goal list!) and write out what you'd love to see in your life. If you love lists, write it in a list format. Write a paragraph. Write in whatever style feels easy and fun for you...it's all about getting your mind on WHAT YOU DO WANT.
It's my hope that when each of you are in this exploratory process, you are brave and true and trust yourself. Choose to design a life that is YOU. Really you. On every level you. It is my belief that goals that our born from this place of our deepest inner knowing are meant to be reality. Now the real fun can begin!
Once I own my goal, the real fun begins...Yes, FUN. Did you know that achieving your goal could be fun? Yes, some of my friends were not aware of that either. It can entail work. It can mean recruiting help. I do rely on tracking systems, rewards, big announcements to friends, accountability partners...every tool in the "git 'er done" tool bag. But fun is a must. If there is no enjoyment, I know ahead there will be no gold star on the fridge for me.
So, question one, my friend...are you inspired by your goal? Are you clear on what you want? If the answer is no, may I recommend some quiet time and some soul searching?
If you are clear on your goal, but you're a wee wobbly on staying on track, ask why? Does your goal inspire you? Have you chunked it down into manageable pieces? Are you tracking yourself and rewarding yourself along the way?? Good God, if you haven't given yourself a prize yet and it's the end of the month, no wonder you're wobbling!?! You need a dose of fun!!
I promise, promise you that fun (or the lack there of) is a major component to our success or failure. We are beings that are designed to enjoy life. We thrive when joy is coursing through our veins. We go the extra mile when we are enjoying the process. We stick to a routine when it's chock full of friends and laughter! Please add to your goals "HAVE MORE FUN!" right now!!
Goals are accomplished by people who are enjoying the process!!
Question two: are you enjoying the process? Can you recruit a friend to be involved in a routine you're creating in your life? What creative twist can we add so that accomplishing your goal can be fun? If you're stuck- reach out! Lots of brilliant ideas waiting to be shared with you over a glass of Prosecco (again, goal #4!!)
Our goals belong to us. We're in control. We set them, we determine the path for accomplishing them, we have the right to change or delete them and in the end....we accomplish them on our terms. Or we don't. And the world keeps on turning....
Today is Wednesday, January 29th, a great day to start loving our lives and leaning into what we truly want. Each and every goal is important and worthy of our loving attention. Every goal deserves our best effort. Every goal get as many "re-start" dates as we want. I mean that truly!
Personally, I celebrate New Years Day (ie new habits/goals started today FOR REAL...) every Monday. No kidding. Every Sunday night I access what I did right that week and reward myself. Then I look at where I fell short (I hate not getting my gold star!) and think about "why?" I use Monday as my new fresh start- new tracking sheets, new rewards, new everything...I make a BIG deal about enjoying the process.
Our life is the process. That's huge. I'll say it again.
Our life IS the process.
A little attitude and mindset adjustment, some comedy relief and badda bing, badda boom- we're on our way to a fresh new week...moving towards our goals with a light heart and a laugh on our lips! Makes Monday something to look forward to- a fresh, sexy start! Yay us!
I'll end here by saying this... "Anything is possible and everything is fun." It's all a matter of making it so. I can already hear my serious, nose to the grindstone, put your head down and work, work, work friends tapping out a "everything cannot be fun" email....How's that working for 'ya?
Me? I love finding the humor in all situations. I remind myself constantly to lighten up. As soon as I do...energy shifts and better things come my way...
Think of me every Monday as you celebrate your "New Year" and reset your goals with humor in your heart and your intention set on "fun!" Let me know how things work out...
